[ODB] Coast Guard of Trinidad and Tobago

Pour se reposer un peu, voici un "yacht-club" qui nous change des MM38, 76mm OTO Melara et autres tubes lance-torpille.

Ancienne colonie britannique, Trinidad and Tobago est une république antillaise formée de deux îles principales Trinidad (la plus grande et de loin la plus peuplée) et Tobago. La superficie totale est d'un peu plus de 5000 km² (moins du centième de la France!) pour une population d'environ 1,3 millions d'habitants. La langue officielle reste l'anglais depuis l'indépendance (31 août 1962). Il y a des accord de défense avec le RU et les EU et vu la faible population (1,3 millions d'habitants), les forces armées ne sont pas énormes : un régiment à quatre bataillons (deux d'infanterie, un de génie, un de soutien logistique) pour l'armée de terre, quelques avions de transport et de patrouille maritime (C-26, Piper Navajo, Cessna) pour l'Air Guard et une petite force de garde-côtes que nous allons détailler.

- 1 patrouilleur hauturier TTS "Nelson" (ex-HMS Orkney), type Island, 1280 tonnes PC, un canon de 20 mm Oerlikon et des mitrailleuses légères.

- 2 patrouilleurs hauturiers types Cascadura, construits en Suède. Les TTS "Barracuda" et "Cascadura" sont armés d'un 40 mm (Bofors) et d'un 20 mm (Oerlikon); ils déplacent 210 tonnes PC.

- 4 patrouilleurs côtiers type Point ex-USCG (transférés en 2000). Il s'agit des TTS "Corozal Point" (ex-Point Bennet), "Crown Point" (ex-Point Heyer), "Galera Point" (ex-Point Bonita) et "Bacolet Point" (ex-Point Highland). Déplaçant environ 70 tonnes PC, ils sont armés de deux mitrailleuses. Décidemment, cette classe de patrouilleurs a bien servi au ricains à "arroser" leurs alliés dans le cadre de la lutte anti-drogue ou autre...

- divers petits patrouilleurs côtiers ou portuaires (voir le lien officiel).

quelques (bonnes) nouvelles fraîches de cette petite marine.

Tout d'abord, deux nouveaux navires hauturiers viennent d'être achetés à une entreprise civile (il s'agit d'ex-supply) et modifiés (RHIB, mitrailleuses...). Ils sont commissionnés sous les noms de TTS "Gaspar Grande" (CG 21) et TTS "Hacachacare" (CG 22).




Ils sont destinés à renforcer la capacité océanique des Coast Guard en attendant les nouvelles livraisons :

- six patrouilleurs légers de 30 mètres armés d'un canon de 20 mm et de trois mitrailleuses lourdes, 1000 nautiques d'autonomie, vitesse maxi 40 noeuds (les narcos ont du souci à se faire), 12 membres d'équipage. Je n'ai pas le tonnage. Ils seront construits en Australie et livrés à partir de 2010 :




- et encore plus impressionnant : trois patrouilleurs hauturiers seront construit en Grande-Bretagne et là, c'est du lourd : 2000 tonnes, 90 mètres, 75 membres d'équipage, 35 jours d'autonomie (5000 nautiques à 12 noeuds). Ils seront armés d'un 30 mm (vraisemblablement avec conduite de tir) et de deux 25 mm. Ils pourront accueillir un hélicoptère dont va se doter l'Air Guard (modèle non encore défini). Ils seront livrés à partir de 2009/2010 par Vosper Thornicroft. Les deux ex-supply récemment commissionnés seront alors retirés du service.



- installation d'un système radar permettant une surveillance intégrale du litorral des deux îles.

Bien évidemment, le but primordial et affiché est la lutte contre le narco-trafic et la protection de la ZEE (forages pétroliers et gaziers), principale richesse de ce petit pays.

BVT to Build Ships for Trinidad & Tobago on the Clyde



GLASGOW, United Kingdom --- BVT Surface Fleet, the maritime Joint Venture between BAE Systems and VT Group, have announced that they will build, integrate, test and commission (up to Sea Trials) an Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) for the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, and undertake considerable further work on another, at its facilities on the Clyde in Glasgow.

The two 90m vessels for the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard are part of a £150M+ contract signed in April 2007 between VT Shipbuilding and the Government of Republic of Trinidad & Tobago (GORTT). The scope of the contract is to build three Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPV) and provide support in the form of training and long-term maintenance and is now managed by BVT.

The programme is also supported by the UK MOD which is providing advice to GORTT and operational sea training to the TTCG crews.

The ships will perform a range of Economic Exclusion Zone (EEZ) management, special operations and maritime law enforcement tasks. The first of the ships is being built at BVT's yard in Portsmouth.

The decision to move the construction of the second ship in the programme to the Clyde has been taken to make optimum use of facilities and resources in order to improve overall delivery to BVT's customers, to balance workloads across its sites and to help to ensure the long-term sustainability of the industry across the UK. The decision follows a significant increase in work content to be carried out by BVT's Portsmouth facilities on the Royal Navy's two new aircraft carriers, announced earlier this month.

Scott Jamieson, BVT's Trinidad and Tobago Programme Director, said "This move shows BVT's ability and commitment to use its scale and scope to ensure delivery of future naval capability to its customers and to ensure the long term sustainability of the maritime industry in the UK".

Design and build of the ships is well advanced, with the first ship well progressed in Portsmouth, and manufacture of the second ship already underway at Scotstoun on the Clyde. The second ship will be launched from BVT's Scotstoun facility later this year and delivered in 2010. The final delivery strategy for the third and final ship remains under review.

AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce that the government of Trinidad and Tobago has signed a contract to purchase four AW139 medium twin turbine helicopters.

Trinidad and Tobago's Air Guard (TTAG) will establish a dedicated unit to use these helicopters for search and rescue, surface surveillance, law enforcement, drug interdiction and disaster relief operations.

The contract also includes an extensive training and logistical support service for the first five years. The contract, comprising the aircraft and support package, is valued at US$348 million.

A consortium involving AgustaWestland, Bristow Caribbean, FB Heliservices of UK and Helidex of USA will be established to manage the AW139 programme in Trinidad and Tobago with training services to be supplied in Italy, the UK and the USA. Operations will primarily take place from Piarco International Airport and from offshore patrol vessels, working in conjunction with the Coast Guard. This order marks the establishment of the first Search and Rescue helicopter unit in the country.

Une vue du "Port of Spain", l'une des trois nouvelles corvettes en essai. un magnifique garde-côte, à mon avis... La seule chose qui manque c'est un hangar pour l'hélico (4 en commande pour l'Air Guard). Et j'aurais bien vu un 76 mm OTO-melara à l'avant, mais bon..
